OFFICERSHIP IN THE ARMY

                                              OFFICERSHIP  IN  THE  ARMY.

The Indian Armys ranks and files consists of Officers,Junior Commissioned Officers and Other ranks.All ranks of the Army are not only subjected to Indian Penel Code but also to Army Act,Rules and Regulations.
 The Other Ranks go through ATTESTATION PARADE taking an oath inthe name of the God they have faith that they will obey the lawfull command of their superiors.A recruit is not eligible to the benifits of a soldier untill he is attested and the attestation has to be done within 52 weeks of training.A pre condition to this is that police department of the district to which he belongs has to give character verification report.
                     Officers who are selected for training and to be commissioned also go through the same procedure.but in addition they imbibed with National spirit and at the time of their passing out they are adviced to keep in mind at all times the following three code of conduct;

                               1.The safety,Honour and Integrity of your country comes first always and
                                   every time.
                               2.The safety,and welfare of the the men you command comes second always and
                                   every time.
                               3.your own safety and welfare should always be last always and every time.

             During the course of their duty in different conditions,different areas different circumstances in peace and war and in our present National scenario of fighting undeclared war with militants officers and other ranks gets innumerable oppurtunities to demonstrate their faith  in the above oath.

                      when situation demand that an officer's career is at stake in ptotecting a junior officer or other rank from unreasonable offence act of a senior officer anything can happen.

                      An incident happened during the service of an officer;
         The officer was Commanding an Engineer Regiment.Two other ranks were detailed as "life saviours"in the Army swimming pool.The employment and duty of these life guards are left to the swimming pool incharge.
                   within a few days a boy of about 10-12 years drowned and died in the swimming pool.A court of enquiry was held and declared that the "life Guards"are responsible for this and the commanding officer was directed to take disciplinery action against the life guards.
             The "Commanding Officer" is the Guard father of the Regiment and is not an individual but an "INSTITUTION".In case of offence investigation and punishment it is an one man court.
               The Commanding Officer not withstanding the court of enquiry reports ordered a 'summery of evidence" to bring out the true events leading to that tragedy.
                  The S of E brought out the fact that
                            a)The life guards were employed in sundry jobs like keeping the personnel                                               belongings of the swimmers.
                            b)There were 12 officers,and 14 children in the swimming pool at the time of
                                incident.
                            c)The children and officers were diving in deep water,and one of the boy who dived                                        did not come out.
                            d)When the sister of the deceased was searching for her brother the life Guard
                                   noticed in deep water and brought the body.

                   These facts reveal that the life guards were mis used by the swimming pool incharge,and that no one has rised any alarm.The officers were very much in the pool.
                    The Commanding Officer wrote back to higher authorities that no offence has been committed by the "life Guards"and hence no action is taken against them.

                         Does such officers are victimised in service,
There had been many occassions where this officer was to go against unreasonable wishes of senior officers.but he never hesitated to impliment honest and correct course of actions.
           At times justice was delayed in his case but never denied.
  The attachment will show.

This is just an example.

When Ganesan was denied  recognition of his service at Antarctica  the Engineer in chief wrote this letter to Chief of Army staff.Then the President of India awarded VASHIST SEVA MEDAL  to Ganesan for diistinguished service.
